Geared for the novice whiskey enthusiast!

Ever wondered what the difference is between bourbon and rye whiskeys? What properties characterize a scotch? Is there a difference between whisky and whiskey? 

To answer these questions, we invite you to go back to whiskey basics with Sandy Wood, CEO of One Eight Distilling. We’ll kick off the experience with a closer look at the ‘Whiskey Tree’ and its genealogy. From there, you'll explore how flavor profiles are formed from the mash bill to the barrel aging process. Once equipped with the best practices for tasting, guests will put their skills to the test evaluating the ‘nose', ‘palate' and ‘finish' of 4 whiskeys.

Come meet, learn from and eat with Alice Bergen Phillips - D.C.'s resident Cheesemonster.  Alice, a former finalist at The Cheesemonger Invitational and cheesemonger at Via Umbria in Georgetown, will guide us through a tasting of several different cheeses.  Prepare to gain the basic skills you need to properly navigate the Whole Foods cheese section.
